Imagine a world where reading and writing don't exist.
In this science fiction novel, Ryter isn't able to finish his book. He tells Spaz, “You're the last book in the universe.”
Your Mission
You will be writing a chapter from Spaz's book. Think about the following questions:
How will Spaz use writing?
Will Spaz write about his future? his past? his relationships?
Will Spaz use writing as an escape? as a way to imagine himself back in Eden? Will he use it to gain power?
What events would Spaz want to preserve?
Your Process
You will have three roles: creator, enhancer, and evaluator.
Creator. You will be writing a chapter for one of the five books listed in the left column. Find your name and click the link to begin writing your story.
Enhancer. You will be assigned a partner. Your job is to provide assistance in editing and revising. You will be making changes and suggestions on your peer's document. All changes will appear in the history of the page, so your teacher will be able to see the changes you have made.
Evaluator. Pick three chapters from another class to read. You have two tasks. First, identify what purpose writing has for Spaz. Share your thoughts. Second, provide specific, constructive feedback. In other words, provide at least two ideas that will help your peer make his or her chapter better. Place this information in the DISCUSSION TAB of your peer's page.
